Bipartisan Bill Would Require Disclosure of AI Use in Political Ads

Co-sponsor says guardrails are needed for AI content used in elections.

Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska proposed the “AI Transparency in Elections Act,” which would require political advertisements to disclose when they have substantially used AI-generated images, audio, or video. The legislation would also require the Federal Communication Commission to quickly enforce the law against violations.

Senator Klobuchar stated, “As AI continues to evolve into a powerful and widely available tool, Congress must put guardrails in place on the use of AI-generated content in elections so that people know if what they are seeing is real or AI-generated.”

“Our bill only requires a disclaimer when political ads use AI in a significant way — something I think we can all agree we’d like to know,” Senator Murkowski said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate as they consider the bill that would require election ads to disclose AI-generated content.
  • For senators and representatives as they determine how to regulate artificial intelligence.
